Radio Edits

I recently contacted engineer Tony Dixon of Masterpiece Mastering, who explained how shorter versions of Oasis songs (often referred to as ‘radio edits’) are produced for promotional purposes.

Tony Dixon: “[I] carried out editing for Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Originally through their then radio plugger and more recently directly through Big Brother Recordings and Sour Mash. Noel usually attends the edit as he knows which parts he wants to take out or re-arrange, has a little strum on the acoustic guitar I keep in my studio then leaves, usually within the hour. I am usually sent mastered versions of the album tracks to edit.”

Oasis tracks Tony worked on included:

Acquiesce (during the creation of the Masterplan album in 1998).

Lyla, The Importance of Being Idle, and Let There Be Love, from 2005’s Don’t Believe The Truth.

The Shock of the Lightning, I’m Outta Time, and Falling Down, from Dig Out Your Soul in 2008.
